The purchase process in Belize is very straightforward, and the legal system is based on UK law – which means all contracts are done in English, and closings are carried out in a way that is very similar to the United States and Canada.

The purchase process in Belize looks like this:

• Select one or more properties for purchase. At this stage, a reservation agreement is signed, and shortly thereafter you will be sent the purchase agreement – this agreement will look very similar to a Real Estate purchase contract in the U.S. with just a few small differences.

• The purchase agreement is signed, funds are paid at this stage, and the “land transfer forms” are completed, they get signed and sent by us (sellers) to the lawyers’ office in Belize, and they get filed with the lands department.

• Title deeds are sent to you in a manner similar to the U.S. although in Belize, they are better known as “land certificates”.
